FOOD FOR THOUGHT: KOSHU AND SUSHI PAIRING  Masterclass in London

On September 30, 2019, a Masterclass introducing Koshu wine was held at Asia House in London. The instructor was Patrick Schmitt MW (Master of Wine), editor-in-chief of The Drinks Business.
After introducing the attractiveness of Japanese wines and wineries which offer Koshu wine in UK, Patrick drew attention to “Koshu wine as an excellent match for seafood such as sushi.” The participating 46 persons from the restaurant, retail sales and hotel industries were encouraged to sample the pairing of sushi or caviar plates with 11 brands of Koshu wine.

New Wave of Japanese Wine  Master-class in London

On October 23, 2019, a Masterclass introducing Japanese wine, including Koshu, was held. The first session was held at 67 Pall Mall, London’s famous private wine club and was followed by a second session held at Trade Soho, a members’ club catering to persons in the hospitality industry in London. The instructor was Master of Wine Sarah Abbott, Founder and CEO of Swirl Wine Group Ltd., and Co-Chair (one of 5 lead judges) of the International Wine Challenge, the world’s largest wine competition.

Sarah spoke to the head sommeliers from famous restaurants, importers, influential magazine editors and journalists about the attractiveness of Japanese wine, focusing on “Koshu wine as an excellent match for seafood such as sushi.”

Many guests highly praised Japanese wine, saying “it’s surprising to learn the diversity and depth of Koshu wine,” “Koshu wine goes outstandingly well with sushi,” “the quality of Japanese wine is getting better every year,” etc. Following the masterclasses, many styles of Koshu, including sparkling, sur-lie, classic and ‘orange’ are now listed in more than 30 restaurants in the UK, and in more than 20 retail shops across England and Wales.

The second promotional article featuring Koshu Wine paired with food will appear in the January issue of Decanter.This time, the article features a Koshu Wine and Sushi Pairing Session at Yashin Ocean House, one of the best sushi restaurants in London.

Koshu wine and seafood pairing article to appear in Decanter magazine

A promotional article featuring Koshu wine paired with food, especially sushi and seafood appear in the December issue of Decanter, the leading UK wine magazine. The article features a Koshu wine and food pairing session at ROKA Mayfair, one of the top Japanese restaurants in London. Peter McCombie MW, an expert on Japan’s wines, led this pairing and remarked: "I had positive expectations, but they have been bettered."
The December issue was out on 6th November in the UK. The article also appear on Decanter's website

Japanese Wine Tasting & Master-classes in London

On 28th February, Japanese wine took the first event in London with master-classes and tastings of top selected Japanese wines presented by Sarah Abbott MW.
